Podcasting
What is a podcast?
A podcast is a published audio or video feed updated on a regular basis containing multiple audio/video clips (“episodes”). A Podcast is published on a subscription (usually free) basis and the content is automatically downloaded onto the subscribing computer. When the publisher updates the podcast with a new “episode”, the subscription is updated and the new “episode” is automatically downloaded through the podcast onto all subscribing computers. This allows publishers to send new content directly to its subscribers, and it allows the subscribers to receive content directly from the publisher without constantly retrieving it.
How do I subscribe to a podcast?
There are numerous ways to subscribe to a podcast:
- Apple iTunes
- Internet Browsers (IE 7, Mozilla Firefox, Safari)
- Feed Readers
Itunes: If you are an iTunes user, you can subscribe to a podcast through the iTunes store. If you would like to subscribe to The Sassy Ladies “Mind Your Own Business” entrepreneur interview podcast through iTunes, click here.
Browsers: If you use Internet Exlorer 7, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari, you can subscribe to the podcast feed by clicking on the link to the left. On the following page, you should have an option to subscribe to the podcast feed. The feed will be saved in your favorites folder, and whenever you would like to access the podcast or its contents, you will be able to find it in your saved favorites list.
Feed Readers: If you are using an older browser that does not recognize the podcast or RSS feed correctly, you can download a program called a “feed reader”. A feed reader allows you to save your subscribed podcast or RSS feeds, and whenever you open the program it will automatically download any new content that has been published. Some readers require purchase; other can be found online for free.
