Ode to a Burnt Pepper by Wendy Hanson Yesterday was an ordinary day. It was filled with excitement, chaos, too much to do, business opportunity, follow-up, etc. And then there was a red pepper.
As an entrepreneur with a home office, I try to multitask whenever I can. An opportunity arose for me to throw some zucchini and a red pepper on the grill as a component of a soon-to-be-made dinner. The zucchini made it out alive but the red pepper needed a few more moments. That's when it happened . . .
The thought that I had to put a red pepper in the barbeque to get blackened and roasted totally left my consciousness. It was gone. About three hours later, (after also creating a chemical scare in the home office by turning on an oven to pre-heat, which was filled with oven cleaner from last week's forgetting that I hadn't cleaned the oven yet), I went out to the barbeque to throw on some veggie burgers. It was then that I found my red pepper.
I had left the grill on for hours, roasting away while I was back inside working on the phone, doing all the things an entrepreneur does. It was quite scary to find that black pepper and know that I had put my house, my partner, my neighborhood at risk.
And yeah, it was a sign from the Universe that I had begun to cross the line and maybe it was time to look into being more Buddhist and doing one thing at a time.
So what is your red pepper? If you are reading this, you probably remember a red pepper experience of your own. I hope it had a good ending and I hope for all of us, being in the here and now, could be an option.
