It’s been an awful week for the economy. As a small business owner, we need to be careful not to get caught up in hysteria. “Main Street” which is us, needs to keep moving. Our small businesses that provide services or sell products, and don’t require large amounts of credit, can keep going.
Think about your business and the types of services or products people will continue to use and buy. Let’s reach out and help other small businesses by supporting Main Street.
In Rhode Island last week, Every Company Counts of the RIEDC, put on their annual We Mean Business Expo focusing on resources for people starting businesses and for small companies already in business. Check out our podcasts on the site.
We took some questions from the participants and have been putting them out on The Sassy Ladies Facebook Group and LinkedIn to get ideas from you.
What is the best way to market my custom embroidered products?
Some ideas include
-put the product on www.etsy.com
-put ads on www.craigslist.com in your area and other areas
- look for opportunities with companies that silkscreen shirts etc and offer to be a subcontractor to add to their line
-contact a trophy and awards company in your area to see if they want to expand their product line
- Other ideas…write on our blog!

In the fall of 2007, Kirsten Lewis was formulating her plan to execute a new website specifically designed for women financial advisors. Kirsten had a long history in that industry and knew that resources for women were limited. Women look at money different and talk about money differently. They needed a place that they had a community, a community that extended beyond the boundaries of their office and extended throughout the United States and potentially the world market.
In her research, Kirsten was online and found The Sassy Ladies. (Ten points for our branding, because Kirsten made the first connection because she loved our name and loved our site!)
What started as a conference call has become a great strategic alliance. Lady Advisor launched in the spring of 2008 and is a fabulous community web site for women Financial Advisors, Investors, and Attorneys. Kirsten has made sure that all the bases are covered! There are expert talks, discussion groups, and tele-classes. She’s not only interested in the development and education in the financial arena but helps women members look at their life and take care of themselves, which is so much a part of being a successful woman entrepreneur.
The Sassy Ladies now have a discussion group on the site. We'll be doing an upcoming tele-class ...

I (Sassy Wendy Business Coach) had the privilege of being the Guest Speaker at the South Shore Women’s Network in Rockland, MA on August 28th. What a fabulous group! I talked about being an Entrepreneur and/or an Intrapreneur. The group talked and shared and many individuals came away looking at their own role in their business a little differently. Mission Accomplished!
We looked at Who do you need to be? Is it an Innovator, Organizer, Dreamer, Communicator, Partner, Systems Builder, Relationship Builder, or Monetizer? If you pick one area that appeals to you and build that talent into a strength—voila! Your work can become more fun and your life easier. That’s the short version!
As it is Labor Day---take some time to vision who you want to be!

As Sassy Ladies----we are all having regular mammograms, right? Last month I was having my annual visit and wound up in a fabulous conversation with a fellow “mammogramer”—Beth from Mad Hectic Oatmeal. Beth is a healthy breast cancer survivor and was having her five year follow-up. Eating healthy has become part of her life and she created a special oatmeal blend for her and her family. It cooks in one minute and contains flax seed and protein powder. I have never liked oatmeal and I just love Mad Hectic Oatmeal. Beth and I have been exchanging emails and she has used some of the Sassy Ladies tools!
Beth wrote: “I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated one particular part of your "Guide to Dreaming of Your Business" The age with the "Values Exercise" is wonderful. I have been feeling frustrated and getting a little angry about my life but didn't realize exactly why. Well, after doing the exercise I realized why! The three most important things that I can't live without... well I am living without them! And yes, my business plan will help me realize those goals. It is an awesome tool for business and for life. I applaud you!”
The moral of this story is two-fold. Connections for your business are everywhere and go to www.madhecticfoods.com

The Sassy Ladies know that collaboration is a beautiful thing. It expands your network. It expands your reach. It expands your customer client base, and it expands your knowledge. Michelle, Miriam and Wendy aka The Sassy Ladies found that out when they decided to form a partnership in business, and we continue to create strategic alliances with other people and companies.
The newest strategic alliance is with a friend of The Sassy Ladies, Jeanna Gabellini. Jeanna is a master coach from California and does great work with businesses, companies, and individuals from a framework of using a lot of attraction. Wendy and Jeanna have teamed up together to create a tele-class about attracting clients and customers in order to skyrocket your business. This type of collaboration and strategic alliance builds both The Sassy Ladies' and Jeanna's Masterpeace Coaching business, because of its reach and diversity. So try it. Who can you have an alliance with?

As an entrepreneur, what can we learn from Southwest Airlines? Recently, I was on a flight to California. So, coming from the East coast, it was a long flight. For the last hour before we reached San Diego, the flight attendant started playing games. We played a game where everyone who wanted to participate wrote their seat number on a dollar and passed it in, and then we had a drawing. Then we guessed the age of the flight attendants.
By the last game, people started peetering out and going back to their reading, and the prize they had concocted was not given away. The uncoveted prize was a pair of slippers made from Maxipads from the restroom and a pair of plastic Southwest Airline wings as the classy embellishment.
The flight attendant must have seen me looking longingly at the fun slippers and came up to me directly and handed them to me. I was delighted! I was able to arrive in San Diego and give them to a girlfriend I was meeting. Life is good. I bragged about Southwest Airlin ...

The Sassy Ladies interviewed Gabriella Goddard about her new book, "Gulp!", during her virtual book tour. Gabriella is from London and has written a fascinating book to help you leap-frog into the future. She has been a leadership coach for 18 years, worked internationally and has a wonderful marketing background.
She was compelled to write the book following the devastating experience of a breast cancer scare. It forced Gabriella to take stock of her priorities and re-evaluate what was truly important in her life.
In 2001, Gabriella started Goddard International LTD, a leadership development company, helping people move ahead to a new level of self-awareness, professional growth and personal success by making fundamental shifts in how they think, what they feel and what they do.
From The Sassy Ladies' standpoint, she's also an extremely sassy marketer. You can go on her website, http://www.gabriellagoddard.com to see all of her media, videos, press packs, press releases and photos. Her product development alon ...

The Sassy Ladies made an appearance at RIWN on 1/10/08. What a great group! Wendy Hanson spoke to the group on "Five Ways to Lead a Passionate Life." Her advice was to 1) create rituals, 2) play to your strengths, 3) reach for a thought that feels better, 4) visualize your ideal life, and 5) write it down, make it happen. To download the handout, containing this worksheet and a list of references for each of the above five steps, click here.

On Saturday, January 5, Jen Huntley-Corbin, the famous foodie and talk show host of “Jen’s Dish”( http://jensdish.blogspot.com) cooked, interviewed and celebrated with Jarvis Green of the New England Patriots. Jen is a member of The Sassy Ladies Coaching Group and we were all so proud of this big event. I went to help out with filming--and to watch Jen in action!
Jarvis Green is an amazing man. Of course he is an incredible football player on a team with a perfect record—heading towards the Super Bowl! But—he is kind, gentle, smart, curious and quite an entrepreneur himself! Jarvis is opening his own restaurant in Louisiana and has spent time at Prime and The Oyster Bar on Atwells Ave in Providence learning about the business.
He is also a man of action. Jarvis has set up his own foundation, the Jarvis Green Foundation, a non-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. His mission is to provide support to single working mothers in disadvantaged, low-income areas. Please check out his website www.jarvisgreen.com/foundation.asp and buy one of those T Shirts to wear during the game! There will be at least ONE SASSY LADY with that shirt on, besides Jen! Please s ...
