Celebrating the Successes of 2008
Get in the spirit of the holidays and allow yourself some personal celebration! Did you meet a significant sales goal or finally clean out your files? Maybe you hired a virtual assistant or took a big risk that worked out.
Acknowledge the individual and collective strides taken in your business. Celebrate your achievements.
Some of the things Wendy, Miriam and I will raise a glass to on New Year's Eve:
- We finished writing our book, "The Sassy Ladies' ToolKit for Start-up Businesses", and we're getting guidance and assistance from our publisher, Mill City Press. (We won an award, too, but can't announce it yet...)
- We built and successfully launched our online resource for women entrepreneurs, The Sassy Ladies Club!
- Many women were able to benefit from and connect through our various coaching groups.
- We were able to expand our platform through many business networking opportunities, strategic alliances and referrals.
- We moved our headquarters to a beautiful oceanview location.
- We grew our team to include administrative, bookeeping, web design and PR assistants.
It was a good year! We're happy to celebrate all of this with you, and look forward to a 2009 filled with abundance, prosperity and joy!
We'd love nothing more than to see women entrepreneurs everywhere sharing their successes in this space. Please post a comment below, so we can celebrate with you!

CWE-RI founder Malysz to leave for Boston firm
By PBN Staff
PROVIDENCE – Carol C. Maylsz, who has led the Rhode Island office of the Center for Women & Enterprise since its opening in January 2000, is leaving the nonprofit to join New Directions as the outplacement firm’s vice president for business development.
New Directions, based on Boston’s Long Wharf, works with senior professionals and their families.
“I’m looking forward to joining New Directions to help executives, professionals and their families try out new personal pathways – be it full-time employment or creative segues to entrepreneurship, consulting, board directorship, nonprofit management or our nationally recognized Life Portfolio Program,” Malysz said in a statement. “What appeals to me about New Directions is the opportunity to offer ‘how to’ advice and inspiration to our clients to help them design meaningful, dynamic next chapters in their lives.”
As leader of CWE-RI, she has helped thousands of local women to find new directions of their own, launching or expanding small businesses. During her tenure, the nonprofit has provided business counseling and training to more than 5,000 women, and helped 147 female entrepreneurs to secure a total of $17 million in bank financing through CWE loan programs. Malysz and CWE also have provided indirect assistance to the state’s small businesswomen, by addressing policy and legislative issues that affect women’s businesses.
She also has served as a presenter at local and national workshops and conferences, and as a featured guest on both radio and television shows. This summer, she spoke with Providence Business News about the projected state deficit and its anticipated impact on local nonprofits and the Rhode Island economy as a whole. (READ MORE)
Her efforts have earned her many honors. Malysz was lauded in 2001 as the state’s “Women in Business...
